The inaugural Inspire Award
Altrichia Cook was class president, cheer caption and homecoming queen, but her path to higher education had setbacks and obstacles. No one from the Central Floridian’s family had earned at least a bachelor’s degree, and her father hadn’t completed high school. She found the support and guidance she needed to reach her goals through FSU’s Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement.
They’re predicting hurricanes, researching climate change, teaching the next generation, bringing the forecast to your home and much more. FSU meteorology alumni have taken the profession by storm, thanks to the university’s highly respected program.
FSU alumnus George Sakheim (Ph.D. ’54), a German Jewish refugee, came to Florida State in 1953 to complete his doctorate in clinical psychology. Before he arrived at FSU, Sakheim had a front-row seat to evil as a Nuremberg translator — an experience he recounts here, written in his own words and recalled from his diary as he reflected on the 70th anniversary of Nuremberg last November.
Four FSU alumnae were recognized in New York City this May with the inaugural Inspire Award. A collaboration between the FSU Alumni Association, The Women for FSU and the Seminole Club® of New York City, the awards honored FSU’s Women of Distinction who have performed outstandingly in their careers and prove to continuously inspire and positively impact all those around them.

2015 Homecoming highlights
Alumni returned to Tallahassee in November for Homecoming 2015: Garnet and Gold Age. The Emeritus Alumni Society inducted the Class of 1965, the association recognized Grads Made Good and the Homecoming Parade filled the streets with students, alumni and friends.
