The Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation—a charity dedicated to the support of women in nine southeastern states—is an outstanding example of private support. Over the past 14 years, the Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation has donated $460,000 to theCollege ofNursing, making it one of the top 25 all-time private foundation contributors to FSU.

College of Nursing Students Excel with Support from Longtime Philanthropist
Recently named the College of Nursing’s 2007 Undergraduate Humanitarian of the Year, Camille Guidry, is one of the many beneficiaries of private support to FSU. She is a recipient of the Lettie Pate Whitehead Nursing Scholarship. She is especially grateful for her scholarship. “I have been given the opportunity to devote myself completely to school and service," she said. During her time at Florida State, Guidry was active within the university community—she was a participant in the Dean’s Leadership Council, the Student Alumni Association and the American Cancer Society. In addition, she served as the College of Nursing student vice president. Read more

Carla Holden
Senior Carla Holden is appreciative of the opportunities private support has afforded her. She attendedFloridaStateUniversity on scholarships from Derrick Brooks Charities and the First Generation Scholarship Program. Both charitable programs make it possible for underserved and overachieving students like Holden to pursue an education at an institution of higher education. “Mr. Brooks is like the father I wish I always had.
