Current Funding Priorities

FSU Coastal and Marine Lab
Located just 45 miles south of the FSU campus, the Florida State University Coastal and Marine Laboratory (FSUCML) is convenient to numerous marine and estuarine habitats on Florida’s gulf coast. The lab’s mission is to conduct research that resolves ecological problems in coastal and marine ecosystems; to provide the scientific underpinnings necessary to inform policy decisions; and to promote conservation and sustainable use of natural resources. The FSUCML is actively seeking partners and sponsors with similar missions and goals to help increase awareness of the FSUCML cause; fund new facilities and equipment; and create scholarships to boost undergraduate and graduate research within the Marine Biology academic program. Find out more about the lab's funding priorities.

STEM Education
University-wide initiatives to enhance education in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Florida State University is currently involved in several innovative STEM projects with focuses in the following areas:

  • K–12 outreach efforts—offering underrepresented children opportunities to explore the sciences.
  • Teacher development and training—exploring how teachers are trained to provide effective science and math education in the classroom.
  • STEM deficiencies—addressing the deficiencies of STEM training in the United States and researching best policies and practices to alleviate these problems.

K–12 Outreach
Public school outreach services and programs to improve K–12 teaching and education

Florida State University is actively involved in providing services and programs to local and statewide school districts. In congruence with the university’s STEM initiatives, several projects involve research in statewide English as a Second Language (ESL) students as well as in lower performing schools and school districts. Additionally, FSU provides educational services, programs and opportunities for underserved and disadvantaged students throughout Florida.

Government and Policy Education
Current university-based and community-wide initiatives in local and state government educational programs and activities.

Florida State University actively seeks local and national government partnerships that make a difference—both in the lives of United States citizens and aspiring students with interests in the areas of government, political science and policy. Currently, FSU is engaged in internship programs, educational conferences and seminars, and government/policy resources.
