The Florida State University College of Music is widely recognized as a top tier university-based music program with a long tradition of excellence at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. For more than 80 years, FSU has offered a high level of professional education in music, offering one of the nation’s first doctoral degrees in music performance, and for over 30 years, it has been one of the most comprehensive and most respected music schools in the nation. The faculty members of the College of Music are internationally recognized in their fields of expertise, and provide students with an educational environment both demanding and supportive. In addition, their success is evident by the thousands of College of Music graduates who have entered the profession as public school teachers, professional performers, conductors, college and university professors, music therapists, composers, scholars, administrators and private music teachers.

Due to limitations in state support, the college has significant financial needs that can only be met through private giving. Student scholarships, eminent scholar chairs, and guest artists and scholars are areas where the college has benefited significantly from private support.
