Mrs. Joyce Beery Miles
Joyce B. Miles is president of her own consulting and training company, Joyce B. Miles & Associates, a leadership development group.
She has been a leader promoting systemic change in the educational arena to prepare students for the 21st century workplace. She has presented locally, statewide and nationally to more than 5,000 participants and has coauthored a careers textbook for use in secondary family and consumer sciences classes.
Miles received a Bachelor of Science from Purdue University and a Master of Science from Florida State University College of Education in vocational education. In 1988, she completed additional graduate coursework in home economics at Florida State.
She worked for Duval County Public Schools in Jacksonville for more than 31 years. Miles served as the family and consumer sciences supervisor for the county school system, where she provided technical assistance and training to more than 100 family and consumer sciences teachers. She retired from Duval County Public Schools in 1997.
Miles has received numerous awards for leadership and public service. In June 1999, she received the Outstanding Public Service Award from the Duval County Cooperative Extension Office. In June 2005, she received the prestigious Leader award from the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, and in 2011 she was awarded the AAFCS Distinguished Service Award. In 2011, AAFCS also awarded Miles the Wiley-Berger Award for Volunteerism.
She serves on the American Association for Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) Leadership Academy Steering Committee. She was a key contributor on the Woman and Philanthropy Task Force sponsored by the FSU Foundation in 2005, actively promoting women and philanthropy at Florida State University through Women For FSU. She also is involved with woman and philanthropy at Purdue University and the University of Georgia. She was a member of the FSU Connect National Campaign Committee and served on the Human Sciences Alumni Association Development Committee.
Miles and her husband are recognized in the Florida State University Foundation Presidents Club and the Westcott Legacy Society for their support of a scholarship in the College of Human Sciences as well as the endowment for the Women for FSU.
