Westcott Legacy Society Luncheon—February 25, 2010
The fourth annual Westcott Legacy Society event was held at the Alumni Center Grand Ballroom and featured a program highlighting the School of Theatre and, specifically, how the late John Degen’s endowment has positively impacted the school’s students and faculty. Following President Eric Barron’s welcoming remarks, guests enjoyed a plated lunch served by Andrew’s Catering while listening to the Zach Bartholomew Trio, a jazz ensemble comprised of two College of Music alumni and one current student.
Camille Licklider, assistant vice president of the Office of Planned Giving, introduced Sally McRorie, dean of the College of Visual Arts, Theatre and Dance, who provided an update on the School of Theatre as well as the School of Dance and School of Art and Design. Lynn Hogan, associate dean, shared the significant contributions that John Degen, a former professor of theater studies at FSU, made to the School of Theatre, including the Degen Resource Room. Immediately following, doctoral candidate Aaron Thomas shared his experience as a student in the School of Theatre and how the vast resources donated by John Degen have significantly aided his academic pursuits.
Prior to the luncheon, honorees had the chance to tour the President’s House and meet Florida State’s new president and first lady, Eric and Molly Barron. After the luncheon, guests were invited to the Fine Arts Building for a special “sneak peek” performance of songs from the musical RENT. Guests also enjoyed a backstage tour of the RENT set and a guided tour through the Degen Resource Room.
This year, nearly 120 guests attended, including Westcott honorees, college deans, university administration and Foundation staff.
